IRP (International Registration Plan)

The International Registration Plan (IRP) streamlines the registration process for commercial vehicles operating in two or more jurisdictions, encompassing the 48 connected US states, the District of Columbia, and ten Canadian provinces.

How the IRP System Works

Under the IRP, you register your vehicle in your chosen base state, and IRP plates are issued for a full calendar year under your Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) account. After the first year, registration fees are divided among the states of operation based on mileage traveled in each.

This system simplifies vehicle registration, allowing you to manage everything with a single payment and license plate, ensuring legal and efficient interstate operations for commercial carriers.

Note: The requirements for each state are different, and you must be a resident of your chosen base state.
