New Mexico State Permit (WDT)

When you use New Mexico’s public highways, you must pay a tax in addition to the mandated fuel tax from IFTA.

Understanding the New Mexico Weight-Distance Tax

The New Mexico Weight-Distance Tax (WDT) is a tax imposed on motor carriers that operate qualifying motor vehicles on New Mexico highways. It is based on the weight of the vehicle and the number of miles driven in the state. Any motor carrier operating a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) over 26,000 pounds in New Mexico must register for a WDT account. The tax is filed quarterly.

Compliance is Mandatory

Failure to comply with this tax can result in fines, potential suspension of your motor authority, and even imprisonment.
