Oregon State Permit (Weight Mile Tax)
In addition to the fuel tax from IFTA, Oregon also applies a tax on the number of miles driven in the state.
Understanding the Oregon Weight-Mile Tax
The Oregon Weight-Mile Tax is a state tax applied to motor carriers operating heavy vehicles on Oregon’s public highways. Distinct from IFTA, Oregon charges carriers based on the weight of the vehicle and the number of miles driven in the state. Any motor carrier operating vehicles with a gross weight over 26,000 pounds needs to file. The tax is filed monthly or quarterly.
Note: Carriers hauling certain cargo or farmers hauling for-hire may choose to pay weight-mile taxes on a flat fee basis.
Compliance is Necessary
It is necessary to file for these taxes to stay in compliance and avoid penalties such as fines, audits, or suspension of your motor carrier authority.
