FTA decals expire on December 31st of each year. However, there is a two-month grace period extending through February of the next fuel tax registration year.
Quarterly – You must file a highway use tax return and make payment of tax due each quarter, starting with the calendar quarter when you began operations in New York State. The periods and due dates for quarterly filing are:

QUARTER PERIOD COVERED DUE DATES
Monthly Mileage Tax Reports – Most motor carriers report mileage tax on a monthly basis. The monthly mileage tax report and payment must be post-marked by the postal service by the last day of the month to cover operations for the preceding calendar month. Example: The May report and payment must be postmarked no later than June 30th to avoid the 10% late fee.

Tax filings must be postmarked by the last day of the month following the end of the quarter to be filed. This is the case even if that day falls on a holiday or weekend.
